The Maleng Regional Justice Center, also known as The Kent Regional Justice Center (KRJC), is one of King County Superior Court’s primary facilities supporting full virtual and hybrid courtroom technology. KRJC hosts a broad range of civil, criminal, and family law proceedings with infrastructure for remote participation, e-filing, and digital evidence presentation.

Technology Overview

  • Remote Appearances (Zoom):
King County Superior Court uses Zoom for most virtual hearings, including family law motions and status conferences held at the Kent Regional Justice Center. Participants must join via the assigned department’s Zoom link or telephone alternative, identify themselves with case information, and observe courtroom decorum. Unauthorized recording or screen capture is prohibited.

  • Video Participation Guidelines:
The Court’s “Video Participation” page outlines standards for virtual decorum and connectivity: use a quiet space, proper lighting, and stable internet; log in early; remain muted until called; and maintain professional conduct. Support resources are provided for parties unfamiliar with Zoom.

  • Electronic Filing (Odyssey File & Serve):
Attorneys are required to use the statewide Odyssey File & Serve (eFileWA) system for document submission. The platform supports e-service, proof of submission, and confirmation receipts. Self-represented litigants may still file in paper at the KRJC Clerk’s Office if desired.

  • Authority for Remote Hearings:
State law (RCW 7.105.205) authorizes Washington courts to conduct hearings via remote technology. King County Superior Court’s standing orders and local practices implement this authority for civil, family, and criminal proceedings conducted at KRJC and other regional centers.

  • Exhibit & Evidence Handling:
Exhibit submission for remote or hybrid proceedings is coordinated through department instructions. The Court directs participants to submit electronic exhibits securely (via USB or court-approved file-transfer) and maintain physical copies when required for the record.
